Sergio de Jesús Méndez Cortez (born 14 February 1942 – died 1978) was a football player from El Salvador who represented his country at the 1970 FIFA World Cup in Mexico.

Nicknamed el Tabudo, Méndez played for Atlético Marte[1] and Águila.
Méndez played 3 matches for El Salvador at the 1968 Summer Olympics, after he had scored against Cuba in the qualifiers.[2] Méndez also had the opportunity to play at the 1965 CONCACAF Championship where he played all of the games. In the Championship he started in 5 games, substituted in 2 games and scored 3 goals for the Salvadoran team.[3] He also played in three matches at the 1970 World Cup Finals.[4]
Mendez died in a car accident in 1978; he is one of six 1968 Olympic footballers of El Salvador who have already passed away.[5]
